The Concordia University indoor track team was split this weekend with some of the team competing in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Bob Devaney Sports Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the rest of the team competing at the Bill Hillenbrand Invite hosted by the University of South Dakota.
Bulldog runners at the Husker Invitational had a record-setting weekend with three events earning new school-record holders. Katie Swanson was part of two the records. She broke the school record in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:36.00 and was part of the relay team that set a new best in the 4x400-meter relay with teammates Bethany Sutton, Emily Wolters and MaryLou Andrews. Sutton also took second place in the 800-meter with a time of 2:17.48. Michael Saalfeld set a new school record in the 800-meter with a time of 1:51.83. Saalfeld finished third in his heat just behind two NCAA Div. I runners.
The rest of the squad headed north to Vermillion, S.D., and also had a good showing. Colin Morrissey took first in the 3000-meter with a time of 8:59.12. Drew Rodine finished fifth in the triple jump (44'9.5"). Jordan Hinrichs placed fourth in the shot put (51'11.75") with Brock Simonsen finishing eighth (49'1.5"). Hinrichs also placed second in the weight throw with a distance of 57'4.75", and James Refenes placed eighth with a distance of 55'9.75". Both Hinrichs and Refenes are working their way up the NAIA national list in the weight throw.
The next action for the Bulldogs comes on Feb. 13 and 14 as Concordia will take part in the Buena Vista Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa, on the 13th and the Wayne State Invite in Wayne, Neb. on the 14th.
