The Concordia University men's basketball team dropped a tough road contest at Northwestern College Saturday afternoon, 79-69, in Orange City, Iowa.
Northwestern started the game on fire, jumping out to a 16-4 lead six minutes into the game and the Bulldogs were forced to play catch-up for the first half. By halftime Concordia was able to close the Northwestern lead to seven, 38-31.
Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs were able to get their offense rolling and took the lead, 51-50, on a 3-pointer by Dustin Weber with 14:20 remaining. Northwestern, however, had too many offensive weapons and the Bulldogs would lose the lead on the next possession and come no closer to beating the Red Raiders.
Weber's 16 points led the Bulldogs offensively. Tyler Bredehoeft added 14 points to the Bulldogs' score and Dusan Veselinovic and Ryan Shrum were good for 11 points each. Northwestern had five players reach double digits in scoring with Andrew Stimson and Kale Wiertzema leading the way with 15 points each.
With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 18-7 overall and 10-4 in the GPAC while Northwestern moves to 16-8 overall and 11-3 in the GPAC.
The Bulldogs host Nebraska Wesleyan next. The Prairie Wolves will make the drive to Seward Feb. 11 for a 7:30 p.m. game at the Doghouse.
