MBB: Bulldogs squeeze past Tigers

The Concordia University men's basketball team relied on strong play from its big men to earn a 64-57 victory over the Doane College Tigers Wednesday night at the Doghouse in Seward, Neb.

The Bulldogs controlled the tempo of the first half and surged to a 30-24 halftime lead. Concordia pushed their lead to as many as 11 in the second half before the Tigers made their final push. With a layup by Trent Schlautman with 4:51 remaining, Doane cut the lead to three, 49-46. Concordia's Dusan Veselinovic and Sam Huebner hit free throws and Tyler Bredehoeft nailed a three-pointer to put away the Tigers down the stretch.

Veselinovic led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Bredehoeft, Huebner and Casey Schrader each added 10 points for Concordia. Veselinovic also led the Bulldogs on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds. Kendall Frantz led the Tigers with 12 points while Jack Lind pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Doane.

With the victory Concordia moves to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the GPAC while Doane dropped to 7-16 overall and 0-11 in the GPAC.

Concordia will next take on the Concordia University Chicago Cougars as part of the 58th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament held in Seward, Neb., Jan. 30 and 31.
