Concordia University, Nebraska Women's Basketball Coach Drew Olson announced that Melissa Hansen of North Loup-Scotia High School, Scotia, Neb., will play basketball for the Bulldogs beginning next season. "I am thrilled to have Melissa a part of this program," said Olson. "She is a great competitor and a solid leader. I love the fact that she is a gym rat and will continue to improve her talented skills. Her high school teams were extremely successful, and her winning attitude will fit in well with our program. Melissa is a fantastic person that will fit in well with the Concordia family."
Hansen, a 5-foot-9-inch point guard, has played four years of varsity basketball for the Wildcats who were three-time Goldenrod Conference champions. They finished with a record of 42-6 in Hansen's final two seasons, both times qualifying for the Nebraska Class D2 State Championship Tournament. As a freshman Hansen was an all-conference honorable mention as well as her team's Rookie-of-the-Year. She is a two-time first team all-conference selection.
Hansen is as equally strong in the classroom as a four year member of the honor roll and the National Honor Society. She plans on majoring in sports management at Concordia. The Bulldogs finished the 2007-08 season ranked No. 8 in the NAIA after making a NAIA National Tournament run into the final 8 before falling to the College of the Ozarks.
