The Concordia University women's tennis team took a big step towards establishing themselves among the elite in the GPAC with a 6-3 victory over the Hastings College Broncos Tuesday night in Hastings, Neb.
The Bulldogs came into the match ranked number one in the region and sitting atop the GPAC standings with a 3-0 record but the Broncos gained early momentum by winning the number one and two singles, 8-4 and 8-3 respectively.
The Bulldogs number three singles team of veterans Leah Koopman and Jess Svajhart stopped the bleeding by winning their match 8-4.
Concordia took complete control of the match in singles play as the only Bulldog loss came in the number one singles as Alexia Spencer defeated Hannah Krueger 6-3, 6-2. The Bulldogs picked up victories in the number two, three, and six singles by winning super tie breaks as Erinn Beckman, Heather Jackson and Kim Francis all were able to hold on for victories. Concordia cruised in the number four and five singles as Taylor Cook and Koopman each won in convincing fashion.
The next action for the Bulldogs come April 19 as the Bulldogs will take on the University of Sioux Falls and Morningside in games that will be played in Omaha, Neb. beginning at 10 a.m.
