The Concordia University, Nebraska throwers got some extra work in by participating in the Midland Throws Meets in Fremont, Neb. Wednesday.

The Bulldogs had strong showings in all events participated in but most notably senior Katie Werner won the women's shot put with a throw of 44'10 ¾", a qualifying mark for nationals and finished second in the hammer throw behind former Bulldog Christina Lark (now competing un-attached) with a throw of 158' 5". Carly Stokebrand and Amy Sandefur each had solid outings for Concordia in the hammer throw, finishing fourth and sixth respectively. Stokebrand also finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 147' 5".

"Our overall performance was good." Said throwers coach Ed McLaughlin. "Almost everyone had a personal best in something that is a good sign we are heading in the right direction.  Obviously Katie had a great meet, getting 2nd in the hammer, to Lark, and 1st in the shot, winning by 4 ft.  Both were qualifying marks, and the she improved in the hammer by 9 ft.  As an event the women's hammer really stood out."

On the men's side Matt Baller and Jordan Hinrichs finished third and fourth respectively in the shot put. Baller's throw of 51' 4" was good enough to qualify for the NAIA National Outdoor Meet. Brock Simonsen finished third in the discus with a toss of 155' 4".

"On the men's side we are just going to have to work harder." Continued McLaughlin, "Matt Baller was the highlight of the day, he improved 2 feet in the hammer and qualified in the Shot."

The next meet for the Bulldogs is April 5 as Concordia heads to the Wayne State Invite in Wayne, Neb.
