The 9th-ranked Concordia University women's basketball team endured a devastating 91-77 loss to the 2nd-ranked Northwestern College Red Raiders Saturday afternoon at the Doghouse. The Bulldogs held close with the Red Raiders before the NAIA's All-Time leading scorer, Debbie Remmerde heated up for 13 points to close out the first half to give Northwestern the lead for good at 47-37 at halftime.
Remmerde continued the hot shooting in the second half scoring 26 second half points for a game high 47 points. The bright spot for the Bulldogs came when with 5:09 remaining Whitney Stichka hit a runner in the lane. The Basket meant little in the game with the Bulldogs trailing by 22 points, the Significance was that it was career point 1,000 for the Stichka, a junior guard from Ruskin, Neb.
Stichka led all Bulldog scorers, while sophomore Stacy Scheer added 14 points of the bench for Concordia.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 22-4 and 11-4 in the GPAC while Northwestern moves to 24-1 and 14-0 in the GPAC.
Concordia will next be in action Wednesday night as they head to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves at 7:30 p.m.
