The Concordia University, Nebraska Basketball Programs earned 3 (1 men's and 2 women's) All-Tournament selections at the conclusion of the 57th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament, hosted by Concordia University, Chicago this past weekend.
Junior guard Whitney Stichka was named the women's tournament Most Valuable Player. Stichka scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field along with 3-for-4 from three point land in the Bulldogs first round game. She followed up with a game high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting that included going 1-for-2 from three point land and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. This is Stichka's second CIT most valuable player awards, she earned the honor as a freshman in the 2006 tournament held in Mequon, Wisc.
Junior guard Melissa Tinkham was also named to the all-tournament team. Tinkham led all scorers in the Bulldogs first round game with 32 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field that included being 7-of-13 from three point land as well as 8-of-10 from the free throw line. Tinkham also added six steals for the Bulldog defense. Tinkham followed up with an eight point night in the championship game.
Senior guard Benjamin Buhr was selected to the all-tournament team on the men's side. Buhr led all scorers in the Bulldogs opening round defeat, with 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field that included being 4-of-7 from three point land, and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Buhr followed up with 14 points in the consolation game against CU Ann Arbor. Buhr shot %50 from the field going 5-of-10, but again perfect from the line, 4-for-4.
Both Bulldog teams will be in action this following week, the men play Tuesday night and the women play Wednesday night, with both games being played in Crete, Neb. against the Tigers of Doane College. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
