The 6th-ranked Concordia women's basketball team picked up a hard fought 80-74 victory over the University of Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday afternoon in GPAC action at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A game of runs, the Bulldogs surrendered double digits leads twice, once at the ten minute mark of the first half as the Cougars went on a 13-3 run over a six minute stretch in the first half, and again in the second half with a 10-2 run at the nine minute mark of the second half.
Concordia's depth proved to be the difference in the game, as the Bulldogs bench out scored the Cougars bench 30-17; most notably sophomore guard TaLisa Krejci added 11 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs rode strong performances from veterans as junior guard Whitney Stichka fell one assist short of a double-double with 20 points and nine assists, and junior guard Melissa Tinkham went for 13 points and four rebounds. In the paint Concordia was led by senior post Jenni Lovegrove with 12 points and seven rebounds. Every Bulldog that entered the game scored at least two points.
The Cougars were led on the day by Morgan Campbell who had 23 points and eight rebounds, Chelsa Baxa added 15 points for Sioux Falls.
Next action comes on Wednesday evening as the Bulldogs welcome the Warriors of Midland Lutheran College to the Doghouse for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
