The Concordia University men's basketball team dropped their third straight in a physical 87-66 loss to the 15th-ranked Hastings College Broncos on Wednesday night in GPAC action at the Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Neb.
The Bulldogs rode a strong first half performance from senior wing Scott Hannon who had 11 points on 5-9 shooting, to a 37-32 halftime lead over the Broncos.
Concordia was able to survive a quick 6-0 run that Hastings put on coming out of the halftime break and the two teams traded baskets till the ten minute mark when the Broncos were able to drain three quick three pointers to separate themselves from the Bulldogs at 57-48. Concordia would not be able to close the gap, and the Bronco lead grew to as much as 23 before a final of 87-66.
Four Bulldogs made it into to double digits: Benjamin Buhr (14), Scott Hannon (13), Casey Schrader (12), and Tyler Bradehoeft (10). The most telling stat of the night was that the Bulldogs were sent to the free throw line 16 times to the Broncos 23 attempts. The majority of the Bulldogs free throws came in the last four minutes of the second half when both teams were playing a large majority of underclassmen.
Next action comes on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs head north to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on the Cougars of the University of Sioux Falls in a 4 p.m. matchup.
