WS: Bulldogs tame DWU Tigers

Article Body: The Concordia University, Nebraska women's soccer team nearly pulled off a sweep during "Wesleyan Week" as the Bulldogs fell on a last second goal to Nebraska Wesleyan, 2-1, during the week before defeating Dakota Wesleyan, 4-1, on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium.

The mid-week battle with the Prairie Wolves started out with freshman Molly Millard putting the Bulldogs up 1-nill just 20 minutes into the game, scoring on a corner kick.

Nebraska Wesleyan tied the game six minutes into the second half on a goal by Alison Frohn. It seemed as if that would be on the only goal of the second half as neither team was able to convert their scoring chances.

However, with just four seconds remaining on the clock Brooke Woodward was able to find the back of the net, giving Nebraska Wesleyan the win. According to Concordia Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht the Bulldogs put up a good fight.

"It was a very tough way to end a good battle," Giesbrecht said. "We fought hard throughout the game and defended well at times, but Nebraska Wesleyan is an athletic team that can be dangerous on set pieces and we were punished for not marking tight enough on a freekick and then broke down late in the game to allow their player to get behind us."

Giesbrecht was quick to point out the play of freshman Sarah Hoffman.

"Sarah was fantastic throughout the match," Giesbrecth added. "She was a physical force and most of our positive play came as a result of her work."

The Bulldogs bounced back from the heartbreaking loss with their first conference victory, a 4-1 win over Dakota Wesleyan at home on Saturday. In the win Millard added a pair of goals, bringing her season total to three, tied for second most on the team.

Other Bulldogs with goals included Hanna Denk and Carolyn Chrzan. Chrzan leads the team with four goals on the season.

Concordia is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd as they take on Hastings College at 5 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
