The 2023 National University Championships are up next for Concordia Weightlifting. Head Coach Freddie Myles' Bulldogs will travel Mary Berris, Evan Fukuhara, Kayleigh Maloney and Rylee Kara to nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
In the third outing of the inaugural season for Concordia Powerlifting, four athletes placed first and all 10 of the team's competitors improved their scores from the previous meet. The next event on the schedule will be the national championships.
In a return to action for the Concordia Weightlifters, five Bulldogs came away with first-place claims at the Heartland Open in Omaha. Titles were claimed by Mary Berris, Rylee Kara, Sydney Wadsworth, Evan Fukuhara and Mitch Myers.
Four Bulldogs came away with medals via top three placements at the Midwest Regionals hosted by William Jewell on Nov. 19. Rylee Ladd took first place in the 52 kg class and nearly every Concordia athlete improved their totals.
The improvements were obvious in the results as four Bulldogs qualified for nationals and all six Concordia competitors claimed medals at the 2022 Midwest Regionals hosted by the University of Iowa on Nov. 5.
Eleven Bulldogs represented Concordia Lifting Sports in the program's first-ever powerlifting event. The team competed alongside mostly Midland athletes as part of the Warrior Open in Fremont, Neb., on Oct. 8.
All seven Bulldogs who competed in the first-ever competition for Concordia Lifting Sports earned medals with four placing first among college athletes. Five Bulldogs also exceeded national qualifying standards with their performances.
History will be made this weekend as the weightlifters of the Concordia Lifting Sports program enter into competition this weekend at the MidAmerica Nazarene Open. It will be the inaugural event for a program led by Freddie Myles.
The inaugural season of Concordia Lifting Sports is set to get started on Sept. 10-11 with the MidAmerica Nazarene Open. That competition will be one of eight throughout the 2022-23 campaign for Head Coach Freddie Myles squad.
