SEWARD, Neb. – Twenty-four Bulldogs opened the 2025-26 competition season for Concordia University, Nebraska Powerlifting at Saturday (Oct. 4)’s CUNE Collegiate Powerlifting Meet. In a major highlight, Bulldog junior Leo Guiza broke the program record for Dots points, a measurement that compares lifters across weight classes. Guiza was one of five Concordia athletes to break school standards in a meet that showcased the Bulldogs and rival Midland.
The competition marked the beginning of year four for Concordia Powerlifting under the direction of Head Coach Freddie Myles. This was the third time the Bulldogs have hosted a powerlifting meet and the first time staging a meet inside the Walz Fieldhouse.
“It was nice to be able to honor the first four-year class for powerlifting,” Myles said. “I’m proud of those kids and how they helped build the program. It was great to start our season with a dual meet with Midland. We had lots of great performances from our team. It was a good starting point and nice to see some school records broken.”
A summary of the school records broken is included below. A Crete High School product, Guiza put on a show in the 110kg weight class as he set new program standards for bench press, deadlift and total within his class. Guiza’s total of 750kg shattered the previous record by nearly 50kg. Other record totals for their respective weight classes were turned in by juniors Teya Badger (470kg total at 100kg), Rylee Bentz (392.5kg at 65kg) and Abigail Lockingen (335kg total at 82.5kg) and sophomore Wyatt Hosick (537.5kg total at 67.5kg). Both Badger and Hosick are returning All-Americans.

A native of Brandon, S.D., Badger also eclipsed her own school records in squat and bench. Said Badger, “I was happy with the end results. I ended up breaking my school record, which was set at collegiate nationals last year. I think the highlight of the day for me was squats. I missed my second one, but I begged Chevy (Stout) to go up there anyways and he said, okay. I killed the third one. There was a lot of good energy today. I’m really happy with how the meet went.”
From a Dots perspective, Guiza, Hosick, Bentz and Badger were Concordia’s top performers (all scored above 400 Dots points). The remainder of the top 10 for the Bulldogs included Matthew Hernandez, Pryce Ostermeier, Nolan Hyde, Adam Widmann, Adrian Hernandez and Zachary Brown.
Prior to the start of the action on Saturday, the program honored eight seniors: Talisa Buhr, Dax Davis, Adrian Hernandez, Leighton Limback, Pryce Ostermeier, Hunter Powers, Garrett Reimche and Katie Wilson. Seven of the eight competed in the meet.
The next competition for Concordia Powerlifting is set for Nov. 22-23 when the Central Collegiate Cup Series will be held in Fremont, Neb. It will mark the final meet of the fall semester. The 2026 Collegiate Powerlifting National Championships will take place in April 2026.
