Mason Garcia cruised through the 197-pound bracket with five pins while highlighting the efforts of the Bulldogs at the season opening York Open. Concordia wrestlers combined for 11 top-four place finishes.
Among the highlights of the preseason ratings, Bulldogs Mario Ybarra and Jacob Telles appeared in the NAIA national rankings. As a team, Concordia landed at No. 4 in the GPAC ratings and received votes nationally.
All-American Mario Ybarra and GPAC champion Jacob Telles return to form the backbone of a Concordia Wrestling program now led by first-year Head Coach Myron Bradbury. Bradbury has the task of bringing along a young team.
Myron Bradbury has been hired to take the reins of the Concordia Wrestling program. The former Lindsey Wilson Associate Head Wrestling Coach replaces Levi Calhoun, now Assistant AD at Concordia.
Also an NWCA Scholar All-American, Mario Ybarra has been chosen as a CoSIDA Academic All-District award winner. Ybarra earned All-America honors in 2021 and studies computer science.
Concordia Wrestling has announced a 2021-22 schedule complete with 14 competitive dates, including eight tournaments. The Bulldogs will open the season Oct. 30 at the York Open.
All-American Mario Ybarra has earned yet another Scholar All-America award from the NWCA. The Scottsbluff, Neb., native also received the honor in 2020.
It wasn't always easy in 2020-21 considering all that the program dealt with, but the season may have been an important one for growth and reflection. It also ended with Mario Ybarra on the podium.
Having already secured an All-America award entering the day, Mario Ybarra finished in seventh place while defeating the defending 125-pound national champ on Saturday (March 6).
As Kodie Cole himself puts it, "I might have a little different story than others." There's a lot of story left to be told for Cole, who has taken a winding path to being ranked No. 1 in the nation at 133 pounds.
Concordia University wrestling has a new leader in Andrew Nicola, but expectations remain sky high. Behind a talented senior class, the Bulldogs are again the favorite in the GPAC and in the region.
Andrew Nicola, most recently an assistant coach at California Baptist University, has been hired as head wrestling coach at Concordia University. He takes the place of former head coach Dana Vote.
The 2015-16 season was another step forward for the Concordia wrestling program, which finished eighth at the national championships and again dominated the GPAC.

Junior Andrew Schulte made history on Saturday, becoming the first Bulldog ever to win a national title. As a team Concordia placed eighth at the national championships.
Without even visiting campus, Jr Lule arrived at Concordia, a place where California junior college transfers like himself have thrived. Lule now enters the national championships on a roll.
“Don’t dwell on the results. Stay focused on the process.” That’s the company line continually regurgitated by members of the Concordia wrestling program. It’s that sort of attitude that has provided a foundation for the Bulldogs’ reversal of fortunes.
In yet another dominant outing in the conference, No. 7 Concordia clinched its second-straight GPAC dual title by way of a 32-7 win over Morningside on Feb. 11, 2016.
