
Bulldog Athletics Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Week
Female: Ella Waters, Volleyball
A senior (academically) majoring in Elementary Education, Ella Waters (Hickman, Neb.) hit .545 with six kills and no errors as the second-ranked Bulldogs cruised past College of Saint Mary last week in straight sets. On the season, Waters has tallied 75 kills and 14 blocks in 10 matches.
Male: Carson Fehlhafer, Football
A senior majoring in Business Administration, Carson Fehlhafer (Utica, Neb.) put forth a monster effort in No. 21 Concordia’s 27-22 win over Dakota Wesleyan. Fehlhafer was named NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week after he totaled 13 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and two blocked kicks.

News and notes:
BAAM luncheons are held every Tuesday (when classes are in session) at 12 p.m. CT inside the Dog House Grill, located in the Janzow Campus Center. The luncheons feature reports from head coaches who are in season at the time. For information on how to join BAAM, click HERE. It is not a requirement to be a BAAM member in order to attend the weekly luncheons.
Dr. Brandon Seifert receives call to NAIA Hall of Fame: As announced by the NAIA on Monday, Concordia alum Dr. Brandon Seifert has been selected to the NAIA Hall of Fame Class of 2025. A star in cross country and track & field as a Bulldog, Seifert won a national title in the mile. In track, he totaled eight All-America awards and six individual conference titles. In cross country, Seifert raced to three All-America awards and three conference championships. For more details on Seifert’s hall of fame selection, click HERE.
Tennis competes at GPAC Individual Tournament: Head Coach Lisa Hart and the tennis programs hosted the 2025 GPAC Fall Individual Championships this past weekend (Sept. 12-13) at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. For recaps and results from the event, click the links below. As part of the fall slate, the Concordia women also earned a 6-1 win over Wartburg College (Iowa) on Sept. 6.

Concordia Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025: The Concordia Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2024 was revealed to the public on July 23. The new inductees will include Sarah Kortze ’14, Philly Lammers ’20, Courtney Meyer ’65, Randy Pospishil ’73 and the 2014-15 men’s track & field team. The class will be officially inducted as part of a ceremony on Oct. 10 in conjunction with homecoming weekend on campus. For more details on the Hall of Fame, click HERE.
Bulldog Coaches Show airs every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CT: The Bulldog Coaches Show has returned for an 11th year. The show airs live for a half hour every Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT on KTMX-FM 104.9 Max Country. The weekly feature can also be heard live via 104.9 Max Country’s website or by downloading the Max Country app. Throughout the 2025-26 season, Bulldog football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball contests will be aired live on Max Country. Parker Cyza serves as the host of the coaches’ show as well as the play-by-play voice for football, basketball and volleyball. In addition, Eric Allgood will call select volleyball matches in place of Cyza.
Concordia Sports Network: Live webcasts for most home varsity contests can be accessed by visiting https://www.cune.edu/athletics/watch-bulldogs at game time. Beginning with the 2023-24 academic year, Concordia Athletics began a partnership with Hudl for live video streaming. Live webcast links for away contests are publicized in sport specific releases that preview action for that particular week. Scrimmages, exhibitions and junior varsity events are not broadcasted via the Hudl account. For select JV streams, check out that specific sport’s Facebook page.
Football

· Notable: In a second straight night game inside Bulldog Stadium, 21st-ranked Concordia survived a scare from Dakota Wesleyan. The Bulldogs trailed, 22-21, entering the fourth quarter before two Peyton Atwood field goals (41 and 26 yards) provided the final points. The home fans could finally exhale when Will Potratz sealed the 27-22 victory with an interception on the Tigers’ final offensive possession. In the win, receiver Jonny Puelz and defensive lineman Carson Fehlhafer enjoyed starring performances. Puelz scored all three Concordia touchdowns and piled up 176 yards on seven receptions. Meanwhile, Fehlhafer dominated on the defensive end as he totaled 13 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and two blocked kicks (one field goal and one PAT). The Bulldogs racked up eight sacks as a team (including two from Dylan Meyer) in another strong outing from the defensive front. DWU (1-2, 0-2 GPAC) hung tough with the help of a 74-yard pick six from Mikey Hart and a standout performance from quarterback Jed Jenson (311 total yards). In making his second career start, Concordia quarterback Gideon Stark completed 20 of 34 passes for 319 yards and three scores. Head Coach Patrick Daberkow’s program has won seven straight games, marking the Bulldogs’ longest win streak since the 2000 and 2001 squads combined to win nine in a row. Concordia has a bye this week as it looks forward to the program’s first ever trip to Waldorf coming up next Saturday (Sept. 27). The Bulldogs will wait until homecoming (Oct. 11) before their next home outing.

· Notable: The school records keep on coming for Concordia Women’s Golf. Last week at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic hosted by Briar Cliff, the Bulldogs again reset the program standard for two-round team score by shooting 336-322–658. Led by senior Emery Custer, Concordia put itself in the running for a tournament title while finishing four strokes behind first-place Iowa Western Community College. On the individual leaderboard, Custer (85-73–158), Maddie Lewis (80-79–159) and Savannah McFalls (80-84–164) placed second, third and sixth, respectively. Through two tournaments (four rounds), the Concordia women are averaging a team score of 329.2, a significant leap forward from the average of 349.9 in 2024-25. Custer tops the team individually with an average of 78.0. On the men’s side, Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad is still looking for consistency throughout the lineup. The ‘A’ team placed 13th at last week’s Siouxland Invite, shooting 334-321-299–954. The Bulldogs’ best individual golfers were Jake Richmond (82-77-72–231), Jude Elgert (78-78-79–235) and Calvin Zabloudil (82-77-76–235). As of Tuesday (Sept. 16) afternoon, Concordia was in action at the women’s version of the Siouxland Invite. The tournament will wrap up on Wednesday in northwest Iowa. Meanwhile, the men are off until next Monday-Tuesday (Sept. 22-23) when the Bent Tree Intercollegiate will unfold.

Shooting Sports

· Notable: The second competition of the 2025-26 season took Concordia Shooting Sports to the Simpson College Invite held at New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee, Iowa. When the dust settled after two days (Sept. 13-14) of action, the Bulldogs placed fourth high overall with 1,572 targets cracked towards the team scoring. Individually, seniors Devin Harris and Katie Welker emerged from the Simpson Invite with starring performances. The event featured four events: trap, sporting, super sporting and skeet. By discipline, Concordia turned in team placements of third in super sporting (196), tied for third in sporting (421) and fourth in both trap (483) and skeet (472). The Hamill, S.D., native Welker busted 89 targets in sporting and tied for the highest score among females in the event. She also finished fourth HOA among females in the field. Meanwhile, the Kansas City, Mo., native Harris tied for fourth overall in trap by cracking 98 of 100 targets. Harris led the Bulldogs from an HOA perspective as he knocked out 324 of a possible 350 targets. Three teammates also shot HOA scores better than 300: Welker (320), Jaggar Luetje (302) and Cael Washburn (302). Head Coach Dylan Owens’ squad will remain close to home this weekend as they compete at the Midland Open at Lincoln Trap & Skeet Club.

Volleyball

· Notable: In another week with just one outing, the second-ranked Bulldogs looked sharp while dispatching of visiting College of Saint Mary on Sept. 10. Concordia outhit the Flames, 309 to -.016, and won convincingly, 25-8, 25-13, 25-18. The individual statistical leaders for the Bulldogs were Ashley Keck in kills (12), Ella Brueggemann in assists (18) and aces (two; tied with Shandy Faalii), Emma Brueggemann in digs (23) and Ava Greene in blocks (six). In the middle, Molli Martin continued her impressive play as she hit .625 with five kills. In addition to an advantage in hitting percentage, Concordia owned all other key statistics: kills (44-20), blocks (7-2), aces (5-2) and digs (73-52). The clash with CSM marked the 100th career match for Keck, who has increased her career totals to 1,111 kills and 898 digs. Since the start of the 2023 season, the Bulldogs have gone a combined 31-3 in GPAC regular season matches. For the second straight Wednesday night, Concordia will host an in-state rival. No. 17 Midland will invade Friedrich Arena after eking past Mount Marty in five sets last week. The Bulldogs took all three 2024 meetings from the Warriors. On Saturday, Concordia will be headed to nearby Doane.

· Notable: The 10th year of Matt Beisel’s coaching tenure officially got underway on Sept. 5 as the Bulldogs competed at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D. Both the Concordia men and women beat out all GPAC opposition and nearly all fellow NAIA squads with strong starts to the 2025 campaign. The men placed fourth in the field of 25 teams behind top runner Trey Robertson (a junior from Wallace, Neb.), who ran the four-mile race in 19:22.8. Two of his teammates also came in under 20 minutes: sophomore Vaughn Hendrickson (19:51.0) and junior Aidan Limback (19:58.4). Notably, the men’s team beat out NAIA 14th-ranked Doane (fifth place). On the women’s side, sophomore Keeli Green blazed to the best Augustana Twilight performance in school history as she ran the 5k in 17:31.9. The women finished eighth overall (second among NAIA teams). Three additional Bulldogs placed in the top 100 in a field of more than 300: sophomore Annaka Schlachter (18:54.4), freshman Ashley Robertson (18:58.8) and sophomore Alison Stepanek (19:25.0). Concordia is coming off 2024 GPAC placements of third on the men’s side and fourth on the women’s side. Following the Augustana Twilight, Green and Robertson swept GPAC Cross Country Runner of the Week awards. After having last week off from competition, the Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday with the Greeno/Dirksen Invite at Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.

Men’s Soccer

· Notable: The slate last week was made up of just a single game as Head Coach Jason Weides’ ventured to Bellevue, Neb., to take on in-state foe Bellevue University, the No. 9 team in the NAIA. Despite outplaying the Bruins for stretches of the evening, Concordia fell by a 1-0 score. The lone goal occurred in the 47th minute when former Bulldog Okan Erkocu found the back of the net. Concordia managed 17 shots (two on goal) compared to 10 shots (four on goal) for Bellevue. The result meant the Bulldogs were shut out for the third time this season. In goal, Inigo Chavarria made the start for Concordia and notched three saves at Bellevue. Hugo Garrote (five shots) was the most active Bulldog attacker. The defeat followed a 3-1 win over Central Christian College (Kan.) that was highlighted by a pair of goals from Ricards Busmeisters. Concordia will aim to finish nonconference play on a high note on Wednesday when it hosts in-state rival York University. GPAC play will then kick off on Wednesday with a trip to Northwestern, a program the Bulldogs defeated in the 2024 GPAC semifinals.

Women’s Soccer

· Notable: Head Coach Nick Smith’s squad had the entirety of last week off from game action while prepping for a pair of contests on this week’s docket. Last time out, the Bulldogs defeated Kansas Wesleyan University at home, 3-1, on Sept. 6. Concordia remains undefeated at 4-0-2 overall. Through six games, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a combined total of 18-7. The team’s top goal scorers are Kierstynn Garner (seven goals, four assists), Lupe Sanchez (four goals, two assists) and Charli Preister (three goals). The Kearney, Neb., native Garner has moved to No. 3 on the program’s all-time goals list with 56 for her career. After receiving votes (23 points) in the NAIA coaches’ poll released on Sept. 3, Concordia hopes to move closer to the top 25 when a new poll is announced on Wednesday. The nonconference portion of the regular season will conclude on Wednesday when York University makes a visit to Bulldog Stadium. Garner and company will then be headed to Orange City, Iowa, for a Saturday matchup with Northwestern to open GPAC play. The Bulldogs will attempt to avenge the loss they endured at the hands of the Red Raiders in 2024.
