
LINCOLN, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis competed in the GPAC Individual Tennis Tournament over the weekend (Sept. 12-13). The Bulldogs were at Woods Tennis Center as Gabrielle Heiser led the Seward roster in the fall playoff.
In doubles flight one, Alana Lopez Pagan and Mariana Molano defeated Grace Schroller and Kathryn Johnson (Doane), 6-1. In flight two, Alexa Richert and Lauren Gottberg tag-teamed for a shutout (6-0) over Adalee Deese and Madalyn Kolb (Northwestern). Newcomers Jacey Powell and Mia Hume paired for a triumph in the round of 16 versus Alexandra Salazar and Camila Lopez (Mount Marty).
Gabrielle Heiser made her way to the flight championship starting with a win over Lillie Johnston (Midland) in a three-set tiebreak (2-6, 6-4, 10-2) in the quarterfinals. Heiser, a Green River, Wyo., native, continued her run over Elizabeth Roth (Doane) with another three-set victory (2-6, 6-3, 10-8).
In singles flight one, Molano defeated Graziela Dallagnol (Midland), 6-1, 6-0, while Lopez Pagan defeated Josline Carter (Hastings) in a comeback win (4-6, 6-2, 10-3). Richert in flight two, bested Maria Azul Medina Lobos (Mount Marty), 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16.
Mia Golka, in flight five, took two wins over Deese (8-3) and Mia Wenzel (Morningside), 8-7 (7-3) before falling in the semifinals.
Chakira and Ishane Derman, Erin Norby and Nina Milic competed in Lincoln.
Concordia will travel back to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face Nebraska Wesleyan in a dual on Tuesday (Sept. 23). The Bulldogs bested the Prairie Wolves twice last season, 5-2, 6-1.
