The Bulldogs competed in the GPAC fall individual tournament on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 15&16).
Concordia women’s tennis team opened their 2023-24 season at the Bethany College Invitational this past weekend (Sept. 8&9).
Concordia Athletics has introduced Lisa Hart as Bulldog Head Coach of men's and women's tennis. Hart has worked previously as head coach at the University of Nebraska, Washington State University and Virginia Tech.
Sophomores Tessa Blough and Brooke Hosick represented Concordia Women's Tennis with 2023 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition. Blough was also recently named a GPAC All-Conference honoree.
Mariana Molano headlined a group of four Bulldogs named to the 2023 all-conference teams announced by the GPAC on May 9. Molano was joined with honors by Tessa Blough, Tara Ferrel and Alana Lopez Pagan.
The postseason run concluded in the GPAC semifinals on Friday (April 28) as Concordia Women's Tennis defeated Northwestern and then lost to Midland. The Bulldogs racked up 13 wins and Ella Dean broke a school record in doubles.
The pairings are set for the 2023 GPAC Women's Tennis Tournament. As the No. 4 seed, the Bulldogs will take on fifth-seeded Northwestern in the quarterfinals. Both the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will take place on Friday.
Concordia will enter next week's GPAC tournament having won four of its last five matches. The Bulldogs found a way to pull out the close battles on Saturday (April 22) and eked past Northwestern, 4-3, in Fremont.
In a matchup with CSM, the Bulldogs relinquished the doubles point and lost the first singles match to go final before rallying to win, 5-2. The victory allowed Concordia to avenge two losses at the hands of the Flames in 2022.
In closing the 2022-23 regular season, the Bulldogs will be on the road for matches at College of Saint Mary and Northwestern. A chance to place as high as fourth will be at stake for the improving Concordia team.
The 2016 Bulldogs were made up of almost exclusively freshmen and sophomores. A year later, Coach Joel Reckewey has a much more experienced roster led by the likes of Alison Ebel, Annie Horn and Kayla Smock.
Despite the young athletes on the Concordia women’s tennis team, the Bulldogs proved to be a GPAC contender in the 2016 season. The team, made up of freshmen and sophomores, went 5-3 in the conference this year.
