The Concordia volleyball program entered this fall with high hopes. The team's 15-19 overall record was not what anyone associated with the program had in mind, but the outlook is positive for 2017 and beyond.
Six members of the Concordia University volleyball team have earned 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition. Honorees include seniors Paige Getz, Naomi Quigg and Taylor Workman.
Seniors Paige Getz and Alayna Kavanaugh reeled in second team all-conference honors to cap their Bulldog volleyball careers. Senior Tiegen Skains and junior Jocelyn Garcia were named honorable mention.
The 2016 season has come to an end for Concordia volleyball, which fell in the GPAC quarterfinals on Tuesday. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 15-19 overall record.
After piling up 115 assists in last week's action, senior Alayna Kavanaugh has been named the GPAC setter of the week. It's the eighth time in her career that she has earned the award.
It's tournament time for Concordia volleyball, which advanced to the GPAC championship match in 2015. The seventh-seeded Bulldogs will be at second-seeded Midland on Tuesday (Nov. 7).
Paige Getz moved into third place on the volleyball program's all-time kills list with nine more on Saturday at Morningside. The Bulldogs fell in straight sets.
Concordia volleyball won for the fourth time over its last five matches upon the conclusion of a straight-sets win at Mount Marty. The Bulldogs hit .378 and were led by 12 kills from Paige Getz.
Concordia took the opening set, but fell short in a third-set battle that ultimately proved to be the difference in a home loss to No. 2 Hastings on Wednesday.
Alayna Kavanaugh has garnered NAIA National Setter of the Week honors after going for a career high 76 assists in last week's win over Dakota Wesleyan. She is an seven-time GPAC weekly award winner.
