Concordia places third in Challenge Cup at Nationals

The Concordia University, Nebraska, dance team finished third in the Challenge Cup at the 2012 NCA/NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla from April 11-15.

The team gave a strong effort during the competition, below is the Bulldogs' performance.

Concordia dance team finishes second at Regionals, qualifies for second straight trip to NDA Championships

The Concordia University dance team finished second in the small dance division at the NAIA Midwest Regional Competition over the weekend in Iowa.  The Bulldogs scored a 78% on their routine to finish second in the competition.  With that performance, Concordia received a bronze bid to the NDA National Championships in April.  Concordia will make its second straight appearance in the NDA Championships in Daytona Beach.  Midland University won the event and received a silver bid to the NDA Championships.  The hosts from William Penn received the other bronze bid.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls,” remarked Concordia head coach Daneen Kovar Theye.  “They put on an excellent performance over the weekend.  We'll make a few changes to our routine, and we’ll be ready for the event in April.  I couldn’t ask for a better group of dancers.”

Bulldog dance team set for NAIA Midwest Regionals this weekend

The Concordia University dance team travels to Iowa this weekend for the NAIA Midwest Regional Competition.  William Penn University hosts the event which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.  The Bulldogs will compete in the Small Dance Division.

Saturday’s competition will determine who attends this year’s national competition in Florida.  Concordia must score a 75% or higher in their category to qualify for the national competition.  Concordia’s routine will feature a combination of pom, hip hop and jazz.

The Concordia dance team is in its third year and is under the direction of Coach Daneen Kovar Theye.  Seniors Maggie McGill and Amanda Flemmer lead a young but talented team that hopes for a return trip to Florida.  Last year, in just the program’s second year of existence, the Bulldogs finished second at the NCA/NDA NAIA Invitational held in Florida.

“The members of the team have worked extremely hard at putting the finishing touches on the piece,” said Coach Kovar Theye.  “I feel we have the ability to make a return trip to the NAIA Invite in Daytona Beach.”
