SEWARD, Neb. – Not only GPAC champions on the mat, members of the Concordia University wrestling program earn high marks in the classroom. With a team GPA of 3.253 (among qualifying varsity competitors), the Bulldogs landed at No. 6 on the National Wrestling Coaches Association list of NAIA Scholar All-American teams. Head coach Levi Calhoun’s squad was represented on the NWCA NAIA Scholar All-American individual honor roll by senior Walker Fisher.

The Concordia wrestling program has been a regular amongst the top 10 of NAIA wrestling squads in terms of academics. The 2016-17 squad also had five of its team members appear on the NWCA list of All-Academic Individuals. Fisher, also an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, has twice been honored with NWCA Scholar All-American recognition.

In Calhoun’s first season as head coach, Concordia shared the GPAC dual title and went on to place fourth at the conference tournament and 26th at the NAIA national championships. Alberto Garcia earned All-America accolades in the 133-pound weight class.
