BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – A small group of Bulldogs represented the Concordia University Wrestling program at the Dan Harris Open hosted by Baker University on Sunday (Nov. 7). Five Bulldogs combined for five wins with Jose Sanchez leading the way at 165 pounds. This marked the second tournament of the 2021-22 campaign.

A week earlier, Head Coach Myron Bradbury took 14 competitors to the York College Open. Many of the team’s top wrestlers are still waiting to wrestle their first matches of the season.

Sanchez enjoyed the most success of Concordia wrestlers on Sunday. He notched three wins in the 165-pound bracket. He opened the day with a 9-8 victory by decision and also collected a pin. Tavoris Smith (157) and Mozes Valenzuela Smith (285) picked up one win apiece. Valenzuela Smith pinned his second opponent of the day. Meanwhile, Tracey Allen (149) and Jack Hedke (197) came up empty in their two matches.

The Bulldogs are gearing up for their first dual of the season. They will welcome Hastings to Friedrich Arena on Thursday for a 7 p.m. CT clash. Concordia has dubbed the dual as Faculty Night and is offering a free popcorn and free soft drink to all faculty in attendance. The Bulldogs and Broncos both went 3-5 last season in GPAC duals.
