2021 Concordia Bulldog Duals scheduled altered

Changes to the Concordia Bulldog Duals schedule were announced on Wednesday, Dec. 15.

SEWARD, Neb. – For the second season in a row, the Concordia University Wrestling program will welcome a large field of opposing squads to the Concordia Bulldog Duals. The 2021 event will feature five teams and a total of 12 duals with action held inside Friedrich Arena on Saturday (Dec. 18). Wrestling will unfold simultaneously on two separate mats beginning at 10 a.m. CT. Head Coach Myron Bradbury’s squad will go up against three nonconference NAIA opponents, all from out of state.

Concordia Duals

RD4 – 2:30 p.m. vs. Central Baptist (Ark.)

The 2021 Concordia Bulldog Duals field includes representation from the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Two visiting teams are back after also competing in the 2020 Concordia Bulldog Duals: Doane and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Based on the most recent NAIA coaches’ poll, two entrants own top 20 national rankings: No. 4 Doane and No. 13 Marian.

Bradbury’s Bulldogs will enter the weekend with a 2-2 dual record that resulted from wins over Dakota Wesleyan, 32-13, and Midland, 32-18, and losses at the hands of Hastings, 29-17, and Morningside, 26-8. Concordia has also competed in five tournaments. Highlights from last week’s home dual victory over Midland were wins by Anthony Perez (tech fall at 157) and TJ Huber (decision at 174). Since the start of the 2014-15 campaign, the Bulldogs are a combined 46-11 in conference duals.

The following Concordia grapplers have collected at least five wins on the season: Mason Garcia (12-3), Thomas Ivey (12-3), Jacob Telles (11-4), Tavoris Smith (10-9), Jose Sanchez (9-11), Conner Burrus (7-3), Isaac Agabin (7-7), Anthony Perez (6-7), Adam Roberts (6-10), Mario Ybarra (5-2) and Josh Broyles (5-8). Garcia and Telles are neck and neck for the team pins lead with seven apiece. Ivey has made a splash in tournaments by placing second at the York Open and third at the Nebraska-Kearney Open. Two Bulldogs have won a tournament this season: Burrus (141) and Garcia (197) at the York Open. Ybarra was ranked 10th nationally at 133 pounds in the most recent NAIA ratings.

The Concordia Bulldog Duals will be the final event of the calendar year 2021 for Concordia, which will return to action on Jan. 8 at the Hastings College Cusatis Open.
