SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A small group of six Bulldogs competed in what was the final tournament of the regular season for the Concordia University Wrestling team. At 157 pounds, Anthony Perez advanced to the semifinals and settled for sixth place at the Dave Edmonds Sioux City Invitational hosted by Morningside on Saturday (Feb. 5). Perez and company combined for seven wins and four pins on the day.

Two days prior, Head Coach Myron Bradbury’s squad wrapped up the dual schedule with a 31-9 win over York College. It’s now all about getting ready for the conference tournament.

Said Bradbury, “I was happy to be out with these guys. We started slow and got better as the day went on. We’re working on how to start better and maintain that same energy throughout the day.”

A junior from Redondo Beach, Calif., Perez advanced through the winner’s bracket by taking an 8-4 decision over Briar Cliff’s Felix Saunders and then a 5-2 victory over Cody Booth of Dickinson State University (N.D.). The sledding got more difficult from there as Perez dropped three matches, all by decision. He was clipped, 1-0, by Morningside’s Caleb Connor with a spot in the 157-pound championship match on the line.

In addition, two wins were also claimed by Adam Roberts (133) and Jack Hedke (285). Hedke earned both of his wins via fall while Roberts also picked up a pin. At 141, Josh Broyles collected a pin over a conference foe. Meanwhile, Henry Gaertner (133) and Trenton Wills (174) also competed at the Edmonds Invitational.

That’s it for the regular season. The 2021-22 campaign will continue for 12 Concordia wrestlers who are selected to compete at the 2022 GPAC Wrestling Championships on Feb. 18-19. This year’s conference tournament will be hosted by Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT on day one and then resume at 10 a.m. on day two.
