Miller, Ybarra named Scholar All-Americans by NWCA

SEWARD, Neb. – As announced on Friday (April 3) by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), senior Darrin Miller and sophomore Mario Ybarra have been named 2019-20 Scholar All-Americans in representation of the Concordia University wrestling program. Miller and Ybarra were two of the 73 individuals nationwide to be honored by the NWCA. In order to qualify, student-athletes must either been national qualifiers with at least a 3.25 grade-point average of All-Americans with at least a 3.0 GPA.

A native of Othello, Wash., Miller is an education major. Not only did he qualify for nationals at 184 pounds, Miller also earned second team All-GPAC honors and was a GPAC tournament runner up. Meanwhile, Ybarra is a computer science major and native of Scottsbluff, Neb. He was the 125-pound GPAC champion and a first team all-conference choice. Miller and Ybarra are first time NWCA Scholar All-Americans.

In recent years, the Concordia wrestling program has been a regular inside the top 10 of the NWCA All-Academic Team list. The 2019-20 Bulldogs succeeded in a big way on the mat by sweeping GPAC regular-season/tournament titles before placing 15th at the NAIA National Championships. Tanner Farmer (second at 285) and Alberto Garcia (fifth at 133) earned All-America honors.
