Joseph finishes second at Simpson College Invite

Concordia University finished 11th at the 2011 Simpson College Invite on Saturday.  A total of 12 teams took part in the event. 

Adam Joseph (Hastings, Neb.) highlighted the day for Concordia with a second place finish at 133 pounds.  Joseph picked up a 16-0 tech fall win over Tyler Emert (unattached Grand View).  He then earned an 11-5 decision over Beau Westpfahl of Coe College.  Joseph then moved to the finals with a tough 8-5 decision over Tommy Mirocha of Wartburg.  Joseph then suffered a 10-5 loss to Jordan Westfall (Coe) in the finals. 

Julian Silva, who wrestled unattached in the event, also had a strong day.  Silva (Covina, Calif.) finished fifth at 197 pounds.  He picked up a 16-1 technical fall victory over steven Kleamenakis (Wartburg) before suffering a 9-3 loss to Brian Broll of Buena Vista.  Silva came back to pick up a 9-2 decision over Mike Hale and then earned a 14-2 major decision over Forrest Marx of Northwestern College.  Punahele Soriano (Wartburg) picked up a 9-5 decision over Silva to advance to the third place match.  Silva defeated Kevin Hein (Wartburg) with a 16-3 major decision to take fifth place in the event. 

Complete results from the invite are attached.  Concordia hosts Hastings College in a dual on December 8.  Action begins at 7 p.m. at the Walz Human Performance Complex.
