GPAC Day of Duals No. 1 set for Tuesday at Morningside

SEWARD, Neb. – All nine GPAC men’s wrestling programs will convene in Sioux City, Iowa, on Tuesday for GPAC Day of Duals No. 1. The slate for Concordia University, Nebraska Wrestling features matchups with Briar Cliff and Waldorf. Head Coach Josh Watts’ squad is coming off a weekend that saw it drop a 33-17 dual at No. 8 Doane before entering 13 competitors into the Younes Hospitality Open. The season to date has included three tournaments and two conference duals.

The Bulldogs are in the midst of one of their busiest stretches of the season with three duals and a tournament coming in a five-day period. This past Friday, the Bulldogs ventured over to Crete, where nine of the 10 matches were decided with bonus points. The reigning GPAC champion Tigers by technical fall at 125 and 133 and led the team scoring the entire evening. However, Concordia managed to split the final eight matches of the dual. Bulldog wins were produced by Stevie Barnes (pin at 141), Cole Price (major decision at 165), Torrance Keehn (major decision at 197) and Gabe Kant (decision at 285). Ranked 17th at 197, Keehn earned a win over No. 25 Chase Stieb of Doane.

Gabe Lujan was the only Concordia competitor to wrestle in the dual and at the Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney, Neb., the next day. The 13 Bulldogs who took to the mats in Kearney combined for nine wins. In making his Concordia debut, Cannon Carey (165) came within one win of a tournament place finish. At 157 pounds, Francisco Mendez posted two wins, including one via major decision. The following Bulldogs recorded exactly one win in Kearney: Lujan (125), Aaron Ohnoutka (133), Braysen Salinas (149), Simon Arredondo (165), Ramon Arredondo (184) and Chason Turner (184).

The NAIA released new official conference and national ratings last week. The GPAC ratings include eight Concordia wrestlers (as listed below). Three of those Bulldogs appear in the NAIA national ratings: Barnes (20th at 141), Keehn (17th at 197) and Kant (19th at 285). A junior from Augusta, Kan., Kant leads the team with eight wins on the season. He placed at both the Friends Open and the Dakota Wesleyan Open. Next up on the team leaderboard is Cole Price with six wins.

Briar Cliff finished last season at 3-5 in GPAC duals (3-8 overall) and went on to place sixth at the 2025 GPAC Championships. Head Coach Donaco Watts’ squad is 2-1 in duals this season with wins over Buena Vista University (Iowa) and Southwest Minnesota State University. Returners Jarrod Gilliam and Dante Rigal were both third-place GPAC finishers last season. The Charger roster is led by four nationally ranked wrestlers: Dariuz Black (22nd at 125), Rigal (10th at 133), Gilliam (19th at 133) and Jackson Balmer (24th at 165). In last season’s meeting, Concordia defeated Briar Cliff, 41-6, while winning eight matches.

Waldorf went 1-7 in conference duals in its first season as a GPAC member. So far this 2025-26 season, Interim Head Coach Joe Lupton’s squad has dropped duals to Graceland University (Iowa) and Morningside. The Warriors graduated their one national qualifier from last season, Tyler Okada. Two Waldorf wrestlers are ranked at the conference level: Shiwoko Shiwoko (third at 141) and Marco Grady (sixth at 149). In last season’s Concordia-Waldorf dual, the Bulldogs took eight matches and won, 38-6.

The GPAC Day of Duals will wrap up the November slate. After Thanksgiving, the season will resume with the Doane Open in Crete on Dec. 6. A second GPAC Day of Duals will also be staged at Doane with the date set for Feb. 7.
