The Bulldogs resumed GPAC dual action last week as part of a conference event held last week at The Arena Sports Academy in Sioux City, Iowa. Concordia defeated Dakota Wesleyan, 32-13, before dropping a 26-8 decision at the hands of Morningside. Contested victories were earned versus DWU by Mario Ybarra (3-1 SV) at 133 and by Jeaven Scdoris (21-6 TF) at 149. Now ranked 10th in the NAIA at 133, Ybarra was upset by Morningside’s Taylor Vasquez, 3-1, in the proceeding dual. In winning performances versus Mustang opponents, TJ Huber claimed a decision in sudden victory at 174 and Jacob Telles pinned his heavyweight counterpart in 4:48. The dual was actually much closer than the team score indicated – the Bulldogs lost separate matches by scores of 3-1, 1-0, 2-1, 14-12 and 5-4.

In the official GPAC ratings released last week, Concordia landed at No. 5 behind Doane, Briar Cliff, Morningside and Hastings. On an individual level, the following Bulldogs are ranked in the conference: Thomas Ivey (fourth at 125), Mario Ybarra (first at 133), Issiah Burks (second at 165), TJ Huber (fifth at 174), Mason Garcia (fifth at 197) and Jacob Telles (third at 285).

As for Midland, two Warriors are ranked in the GPAC: Steven Aranda (sixth at 149) and Tyson Beauperthuy (first at 197). Beauperthuy is also ranked third nationally in his weight class. In conference duals this season, Midland has suffered defeats at the hands of Hastings, 33-15, Briar Cliff, 49-6, and Jamestown, 45-10. Open weights have contributed to the lopsided nature of those scores. The Warriors have a first-year head coach in Daviaire Dickerson, an alum of Arizona Christian University.

The following Bulldogs have earned at least five wins so far this season:

·        Mason Garcia (197) – 12-2

·        Thomas Ivey (125) – 11-3

·        Jacob Telles (285) – 11-4

·        Tavoris Smith (157) – 9-9

·        Jose Sanchez (165) – 9-11

·        Isaac Agabin (125/133) – 7-7

·        Conner Burrus (141) – 6-3

·        Adam Roberts (125) – 6-10

·        Anthony Prez (157) – 5-7

·        Josh Broyles (141) – 5-8

Concordia will have the weekend off from competition. The Bulldogs will be back home on Dec. 18 to host the Concordia Bulldog Duals.
