Wrestling Polls: Conference | NAIA

SEWARD, Neb. – Following a sweep of GPAC regular season and tournament titles in 2019-20, the Concordia University Wrestling Program has checked in at No. 3 in the initial conference ratings of 2020-21 (released on the NAIA website on Nov. 10). Nationally, the Bulldogs are listed among teams receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll unveiled on Friday (Nov. 13).

Eight Bulldogs appeared within the top six of the GPAC in their respective weight classes, including top-ranked 133-pounder Mario Ybarra. Ybarra is a returning 125-pound GPAC champion. Another defending conference titlist (at 157), Gabe Crawford is ranked No. 2 in the GPAC at 165. Meanwhile, three Concordia competitors landed at No. 3 in the conference: Jeaven Scdoris (141), Issiah Burks (157) and Jace Summers (174).

A lot is expected this season of Ybarra, who just missed out on reaching the All-America podium in 2020. The Scottsbluff, Neb., native is ranked third in the NAIA at 133. Crawford gives Concordia a second nationally-ranked competitor. He came in at No. 14 on the NAIA’s list of 165 pounders.

Ybarra and company will return to action tonight (Nov. 13) with a dual at Dakota Wesleyan. The first match is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT from Mitchell, S.D. The Bulldogs own a combined GPAC dual record of 41-4 over the previous six seasons.
