Bulldog wrestlers honored

A pair of Bulldog wrestlers was honored this week for their individual performances at the Buena Vista Open.

Freshman Blake Augustyn (Ord, Neb.) was selected by the Bulldog Athletic Booster Club as Concordia's Male Athlete-of-the-Week.  Augustyn is the third wrestler to earn the honor this season joining teammates Julian Silva and Adam Joseph.

Augustyn placed second in the BVU Open at 165 pounds, meeting the NAIA qualifying standards for the second time this season.  The highlight of the tournament was a 5-4 decision in the semi-finals over Ryan Osgood of the University of Northern Iowa, a two-time NCAA I qualifier.  Augustyn has posted an 8-3 record over the last two tournaments.

Sophomore captain Gordie Fowlkes (Newman Grove, Neb.) placed third at the BVU Open at 125 pounds and earned the Edward Jones Wrestler-of-the-Week award. Fowlkes went 4-1 on the day with two falls.  His last two losses have come to wrestlers ranked second and third in the nation.

The Edward Jones Wrestler-of-the-Week award is sponsored by Brady Johnson of Seward.
