Wildcats overturn Bulldogs

LINCOLN, Neb. – On Saturday afternoon, the Concordia women’s tennis team faced Baker University. The Bulldogs were defeated 8-1 by the Wildcats.

Concordia drops to 0-4 this season while Baker claims its first victory of the season and is now 1-0.

Head coach Joel Reckewey said, “Even though the women’s team came up short, they are learning to be more competitive and are putting themselves in a position to win. The match tonight was a lot closer the score shows. We had a lot of close matches that we almost won. I like how the girls are playing together stronger and I’m excited about the upcoming opportunities that we have.”

In the number one singles position, Annie Horn claimed the lone victory for the Bulldogs. Horn defeated her opponent, Brooke Barnard 8-5. Barnard is ranked 17th in Baker’s region.

Katie Hertz competed in her first singles match and was narrowly beaten, 8-5.

In the doubles, Horn and Katelinn Wurm were slotted in the number one position and faced Barnard and Holly Chestnut. The Bulldog duo was defeated, 8-3.

The Concordia women’s tennis team will hit the courts again on Feb. 12 as it takes on Ottawa University in Lincoln, Neb. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
