
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Bulldogs faced a tough test on Sunday (March 29), falling at No. 17 Morningside University, 1-6, at the Mason Family Tennis Complex. Concordia University, Nebraska picked up a doubles victory and a singles win from Nina Milic but were unable to keep pace with the nationally ranked Mustangs.
Head Coach Lisa Hart and the Seward side are 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC.
“Proud of the way our team represented our program and our university,” Coach Hart said. “We are excited for our upcoming GPAC competition.”
The top of the doubles lineup came through but the Mustangs would eventually take bottom tow matches. Ishane Derman and Mariana Molano earned a quality win at No. 1, edging Line Jensen and Brooke Marshall in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). Morningside claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
In singles play, the Bulldogs battled across the lineup but managed one breakthrough at No. 6. Milic delivered Concordia’s lone point of the dual, grinding through a three-set match to defeat Sophia Guntren, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.
Several Bulldogs competed hard in their contests despite the final score. At No. 2 singles, Chakira Derman pushed Lara Heinrich to a second-set tiebreak before falling, 3-6, 6-7 (1-7). Alana Lopez Pagan also forced a tiebreak in the opening set at No. 4 before dropping a 6-7 (3-7), 1-6 decision.
The Mustangs secured the remaining singles matches to seal the dual. Mariana Molano fell at No. 1, 2-6, 2-6, while Ishane Derman dropped a 3-6, 1-6, decision at No. 3. Alexa Richert was defeated at No. 5, 1-6, 1-6.
The Bulldogs (10-5, 1-1 GPAC) will face Midland (3-8, 1-1 GPAC) after a large break on Wednesday (April 8). Concordia will reach for the first serve at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
