SEWARD, Neb. – One of the top players in the conference, Sofia Morales has been rewarded after leading Concordia University Women’s Tennis to a conference win last week over Hastings. On Wednesday (April 20), the league honored Morales as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Player of the Week. Morales has garnered the award for the first time this season and for the second time in her career (also honored on April 7, 2021).

A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Morales won twice last week at No. 1 singles. In the suspended match at Doane from April 12 (set to be finished on Wednesday), Morales rallied back to defeat Ava Macke, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. She also breezed past Hastings’ Theresa Price, 6-2, 6-0, as part of a 6-1 team win at Hastings on April 13. In doubles play, Morales teamed up with Tessa Blough for victories over their counterparts at No. 1 doubles against both Doane and Hastings. In her career in GPAC singles matches, Morales has gone a combined 11-3 (including a 6-1 record in 2022). Morales and Blough have gone 5-2 as a combo this season in GPAC doubles contests.

After finishing the match tonight at Doane (resumes at 5:30 p.m. CT in Crete), Morales and her teammates will host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. on Thursday in a nonconference tilt.
