Miranda Viera/Morales upset sixth seed in highlight of ITA Regional

WINFIELD, Kan. – A group of four Bulldogs took to the courts in Winfield, Kan., Sept. 25-27, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships. In the signature performance of the weekend for Concordia University Women’s Tennis, the doubles pair of Claudia Miranda Viera and Sofia Morales claimed an upset of the sixth-seeded doubles combo in the bracket.

Head Coach David DeSimone’s squad has an abbreviated fall schedule before ramping things up in the spring of 2021. Miranda Viera and Morales were joined in Winfield by teammates Ansley Gates and Allison Marshall.

Miranda Viera and Morales managed to edge their sixth-seeded counterparts in Grace Maxey and Kayla Ortiz by a score of 9-7. In the next round of the doubles bracket, Miranda Viera and Morales were eliminated by an 8-1 score. In singles action, Miranda Viera and Morales notched one win apiece. Additionally, Marshall posted a singles victory over Kalie Jones, 6-3, 6-4.

The spring portion of the 2020-21 schedule is yet to be announced. Concordia will play each of its conference matches next spring.
