
SEWARD, Neb. – The Dawgs owned home court from start to finish with a 7-0 shutout of Northwestern on Saturday (April 11). Concordia University, Nebraska went a perfect 9-for-9 in all the matches pitted against the Red Raiders. Ishane Derman gave up only one game in doubles and singles play, while Erin Norby won her first collegiate point.
Women’s Tennis has earned a 12-5 overall record and a 3-1 GPAC showing.
Dominant from the start the No. 4 Alana Lopez Pagan defeated Madalyn Kolb (6-3, 6-1) to clinch the match. The senior out of Forney, Texas, has nine wins in singles this season with all her victories coming in straight sets except one bout.
Doubles came out firing with decisive wins in all three slots. No. 1 Mariana Molano and Ishane Derman bageled their opponents (6-0) and No. 3 Jacey Powell with Norby won, 6-2, to clinch the paired point. No. 2 Chakira Derman and Lopez Pagan won, 6-2, over Kolb and Bryn Higginbotham.
The Derman sisters used their tenacity to defeat their opponents in consecutive sets. No. 3 Ishane Derman was the first singles match to finish with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alloree Else. No. 2 Chakira turned on another gear to blow past Pietra Ferreira (6-0, 6-2).
No. 1 Molano and Hastings’ Matilde Di Martino had the biggest battle as the Colombian came out on top. Molano took set one, 7-5, and came in clutch to shut down Martino in the second (6-4).
No. 5 Alexa Richert and No. 6 Nina Milic completed the blanking over the Red Raiders. Richert defeated Higginbotham (6-3, 6-2) and Milic bested Hannah Beckloff (6-1, 6-2).
Concordia (12-5, 3-1 GPAC) is set to battle against Mount Marty (0-12, 0-5 GPAC) in Yankton, S.D., tomorrow (April 11). The Bulldogs will compete at 1 p.m. CT.
