SEWARD, Neb. – The last opportunity of the fall presented the challenge of going up against NCAA Division II William Jewell College (Mo.) on Saturday (Oct. 8). The Concordia University Women’s Tennis team will try to grow from the experience after it was shut out, 6-0, by the Cardinals in Seward. The Bulldogs managed to win one match, taking No. 3 doubles thanks to the work of freshmen Ella Dean and Gabrielle Heiser.

Head Coach Cam Long’s squad stands at 1-2 overall in dual meets. The fall portion of the 2022-23 slate also included two tournaments.

Said Long, “I’m very pleased with how this fall went. Our team had a lot of big accomplishments over the past couple weeks. Today was good to play a team of that caliber and learn some new things. Doubles especially, I thought we looked very good today. I hope we’re able to look at all the positives we’ve accomplished this fall and take that momentum into the spring.”

William Jewell picked up the doubles point by winning at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. At No. 3, Dean and Heiser triumphed by a 6-4 score. The other doubles tandems for Concordia were Tessa Blough and Alana Lopez Pagan at No. 1 and Tara Ferrel and Mariana Molano at No. 2.

In singles, Molano won the second set before losing out in a tiebreaker. A native of Bogota, Colombia, Molano has immediately jumped to the top of the singles lineup as a freshman.
