Concordia falls to ranked opponent

LINCOLN, Neb – The Concordia women’s tennis team dropped a match to 25th-ranked Ottawa University on Friday afternoon. The Braves bested the Bulldogs, 9-0.

Concordia falls to 0-5 on the season while Ottawa improves to 6-2.

Head coach Joel Reckewey said, “The women’s team is a young group and they are all competitive players. Every match experience that they have on the court helps their confidence. Their level of play is improving and they are looking forward to conference play later this season.”

Freshman Katelinn Wurm faced Jennifer Luedtke in the No. two singles position. Wurm won three sets in the first game but was ultimately defeated, 6-3, 6-1.

On the doubles side, the duo of Katie Hertz and Elizabeth Phillips debuted as a pair. At the No. three slot, Hertz and Phillips were defeated, 8-1.

The Concordia women’s tennis team will return to the courts tomorrow as it takes on Bethany College in the Walz Fieldhouse in Seward. The first serve is slated for 10 a.m.
