SEWARD, Neb. – In shaking off Thursday’s loss at Baker University (Kan.), the Concordia University Women’s Tennis team had no problem on Saturday (April 10). The Bulldogs swept all singles and doubles matches in a snappy, 7-0, victory over visiting Mount Marty. In contested competition, both Sofia Morales and Claudia Miranda Viera claimed singles/doubles wins.

Head Coach David DeSimone’s squad has also beaten Morningside and Hastings within conference play. Concordia stands at 6-5 overall (3-0 GPAC).

“I enjoyed the way our teams bounced back after a tough loss at Baker,” DeSimone said. “We came out ready to compete and made the most of it today. Claudia and Sofia played really well against some solid players in singles and doubles. Everyone had a few things that they were working on today and we did a good job executing on the court.”

In doubles, the Lancers relinquished the team point by not filling out the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. At the No. 1 position, Morales and Miranda Viera captured a 6-3 victory over Haley Gonsor and Lacee Fedeler. Mount Marty was unable to finish at No. 2 due to an injury.

Then in singles, Morales (No. 1), Miranda Viera (No. 2) and Tara Ferrel (No. 3) were all victorious in contested matches. In terms of the scores, Morales was the most dominant in what resulted in a 6-2, 6-2, win. Miranda Viera won, 6-4, 6-1, while Ferrel found herself in a battle that went 6-3, 6-4.

The Lancers fell to 2-4 (0-2 GPAC). In its GPAC opener, Mount Marty lost at Midland, 6-1, on March 27.

The Bulldogs will quickly turn around and play College of Saint Mary (4-2, 0-1 GPAC) on Monday. That match has been moved to Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha. First serve will be at 4 p.m. CT.
