
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis delivered a dominant performance Friday (Feb. 21) at the Grand Island Tennis Center, cruising past Ottawa University (Kan.), 6-1. Alana Lopez Pagan clinched the team victory in singles play as the Bulldogs improved to 5-1 on the season.
Head Coach Lisa Hart and company are riding a three-match win streak, with the lone setback coming against NCAA Division I opponent University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Concordia controlled the match from the opening serve, winning five of six singles matches and sweeping doubles play. At No. 1 singles, Mariana Molano bounced back after dropping the first set to secure a 4-6, 6-2 (7) victory, setting the tone with her resilience and composure. Lopez Pagan followed with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, showcasing steady baseline play and aggressive point construction.
At No. 4, Nina Milic earned a straight-sets triumph, 6-3, 6-4, while Concordia also picked up key points at No. 5 and No. 6 via forfeits. Ottawa’s lone point came at No. 3 singles, where a tightly contested three-set match slipped away from the Bulldogs in a 10-8 super tiebreak.
In doubles action, the Bulldogs were equally in charge. The top pairing of Molano and Ishane Derman dominated 6-1 at No. 1, while Milic and Lopez Pagan secured a clutch 7-5 victory at No. 2. Concordia added another point at No. 3 doubles by forfeit to complete the sweep.
With the win, the Bulldogs (5-1) continued their strong early-season momentum but will be put to the test in less than 24 hours. Concordia is set to face Baker University (Kan.) and University of Saint Mary (Kan.) at Genesis Health Club in Lawrence, Kan. The match against the Wildcats begins at noon CT, followed by a 5 p.m. CT contest versus the Spires.
