Bulldogs defeated by Threshers

SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia women’s tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Bethel College. The Friday afternoon match saw Annie Horn and Hailey Lemos gain victories in the singles matches.

Head coach Joel Reckewey said, “The team today had a lot closer match than the score shows. I like the way the girls performed. We didn’t do what we needed to in order to win. We had our chances and we did have a lot of close matches. It’s nice to see getting individual victories.”

The Bulldogs drop to 1-9 this season while the Threshers open their season with a win and are now 1-0.

Horn, slotted in the No. one position in singles defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1. Lemos competed for the first time in the match. The freshman played in the No. four spot in the singles matches and won 8-5. Elizabeth Philips went into an extra set with her foe but was defeated 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

In the doubles, Lemos and Alison Ebel dropped a close 8-6 match in the No. two position. The No. 3 duo of Phillips and Anna Kenney were defeated 8-5.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on March 10 as they take on Kansas Wesleyan in Salina, Kan. at 2 p.m.
