Bulldogs bagel Vikings inside Walz

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis delivered a dominant showing inside the Walz Fieldhouse to bagel Grand View University (Iowa), 7-0, on Friday (March 6). The Bulldogs clinch came from Ishane Derman in her tiebreak bout.

Head Coach Lisa Hart and the Dawgs are 8-3 overall through 11 matches.

The clinching point came at No. 4 singles where Ishane Derman battled through the most competitive match of the afternoon. After dropping the opening set to Grand View’s Sara Mendoza, Derman responded with a strong second set before closing the match in the tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2 (10-7) to secure the fourth and decisive team point for Concordia.

At the top of the lineup, Mariana Molano delivered a commanding performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Reolon in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Molano controlled the match from the opening game forcing her opponent to continually hit into the net.

Concordia continued to build momentum with dominant results throughout the lineup. Alana Lopez Pagan cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, while Alexa Richert handled S. Valero, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 position. Nina Milic added another decisive point with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout win over Ana Ponce at No. 6.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Bulldogs established control in doubles play. Ishane and Molano secured a 7-5 victory at the No. 1 position over Reolon and Sonya Ordinteva. At No. 3 doubles, Jacey Powell and Richert powered to a 6-2 win against Ana Ponce and S. Valero. Concordia also claimed the No. 2 doubles match as Chakira Derman and Lopez Pagan were awarded the victory after a Grand View disqualification.

Chakira added a strong singles performance at No. 2, defeating Camila Castro, 7-5, 6-2, as Concordia completed the 7-0 sweep.

With the victory, the Bulldogs (8-3) showcased their depth which will be put to the test in less than 24 hours against Missouri Baptist University (3-3) in St. Louis, Mo. The Bulldogs will serve at 3 p.m. CT at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
