Blough honored with All-American Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year award

SEWARD, Neb. – A highly-respected leader within the Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis program, senior Tessa Blough earned a unique honor at the close of the spring 2025 semester. As announced by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Blough has been recognized as a 2025 All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year in the sport of tennis.

As stated by the NSCA, “The All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award program recognizes those collegiate and high school athletes whose athletic accomplishments reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning.”

A native of Cody, Wyo., Blough was nominated for the award by Concordia Strength & Conditioning Coach and Assistant Lifting Coach Chevy Stout. As part of the nomination process, Stout wrote the following about Blough, “Blough’s success is a direct reflection of her tireless work ethic—whether she’s sharpening her skills on the court or pushing herself in the weight room, she consistently strives to improve. Her commitment to strength training and conditioning has allowed her to elevate her game, building the endurance and power necessary to compete at a high level. Known for her relentless drive, she embodies the spirit of a dedicated athlete, always pushing her limits to reach new heights.”

The latest award adds to a long list of accolades for Blough, who garnered distinction as winner of the 2024 NAIA National Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award, as selected by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. A Psychology and Behavioral Science major, Blough represents the Concordia Tennis program on the Bulldog Council of Student-Athletes. Blough leads the team in number of community service hours and has spent significant time volunteering at Ridgewood Rehab & Care Center in Seward. Additionally, she lives with a condition called lupus and is in a constant state of managing her symptoms while competing at the highest levels on the court and excelling in the classroom.

Her honors also include NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards (three times) and GPAC All-Conference laurels in three separate years. Blough has helped the 2024-25 Concordia Women’s Tennis team to a GPAC tournament title and a trip to the NAIA national tournament in Mobile, Ala.
