Winning streak snapped as Bulldogs fall at Hastings College, 5-1

Hastings College picked up a decisive 5-1 women’s soccer victory over Concordia University on Tuesday evening in Hastings.  The Broncos improved to 11-4-1 overall and 9-0-1 in conference play with the win.  Concordia had its three-game winning streak snapped with the loss.  The Bulldogs are 8-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the GPAC. 

Hastings held a commanding 26-9 advantage in shots.  The Broncos had five corner kicks compared to just one for the Bulldogs. 

Esmeralda Lacayo scored the opening goal of the game for Hastings in the 16th minute.  A Concordia clearance attempt was blocked, and Lacayo put it away to give Hastings the early 1-0 lead. 

Jamie Sanchez, this week’s GPAC offensive player-of-the-week, scored her team-best 10th goal of the season to knot the score at 1-1 in the 28th minute.  Sanchez scored on a header following a Concordia free kick. 

Hastings created some separation late in the first half with a pair of goals by Jessica Carlson.  Jen Lerner picked up the assist on Carlson’s second goal, and the Broncos took a 3-1 lead into halftime. 

The Broncos continued to pour it on early in the second half.  Hastings scored two goals in the 53rd minute for the final score of 5-1. 

Megan Kreifelsand Tenaya Howsden combined for the win in net for the Broncos.  Ariel Harris made seven saves but allowed the five goals in goal for Concordia.  Shelby Hughes played the final 30 minutes and made three saves for the Bulldogs. 

Concordia currently sits in ninth place in the conference standings.  The Bulldogs host Briar Cliff University on Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 6 pm at Bulldog Stadium.
