Midland holds on for 2-1 victory over Concordia

Midland University held on for a 2-1 women’s soccer win over Concordia on Wednesday afternoon in Fremont.  The Warriors improved to 5-2-2 overall on the year with a 3-1 mark in the GPAC.  Concordia dropped its third straight game to fall to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. 

Molly Bolibaugh put Midland on top in the first half with a goal in the 30th minute.  Kayla Smelker had the assist on the Warriors’ first goal.  Concordia tied it up less than a minute later with a goal by Jordan Donohoue.  Donohoue’s goal followed a corner kick by Hannah Denk. 

The score remained the same until the second half.  Smelker scored the game-winner in the 64th minute for the Warriors off an assist by Nicola Hermes. 

Midland held a 17-12 shot advantage in the game.  Beth Russell made five saves in goal for the Warriors, while Ariel Harris made six saves for the Bulldogs.  Jamie Sanchez added a game-high six shots in a losing effort for Concordia. 

Concordia hosts the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday.  The game is scheduled for 6 pm at Bulldog Stadium.
