SALINA, Kan. – Abby Haynes dialed up a last second score to break even (1-1) after 90 minutes of play in the GPAC-KCAC clash on Wednesday night (Sept. 9). The Bulldogs continued to reach the opposing box but came up empty until the resilience side forced an equalizer with Kansas Wesleyan University at JRI Stadium. Haynes’ score was her first of the season.
Head Coach Jason Weides and the new look Dawgs are 0-2-2 having tied in the last two outings.
“I’m proud of the team’s resiliency and response to keep fighting all the way to the end,” Coach Weides said. “Good teams find a way, when things aren’t going great, to still scrap it out and find a way to get a result. Our team did that today. The team was going for the goal and kept going and going and going, and fortunately, we got it. It was really great to see Abby get her first goal of the season.”
Down one, the finals seconds were ticking off the clock. With only 11 seconds of heart beats left before the final horn, Guadalupe Sanchez attacked the ball over the Coyote back line towards the speedy Haynes timing her run to pull the goalkeeper out of position. The sophomore, out of Columbus, Neb., made the most of her first start in 2026 punching in the second goal of her career in the last moments.
After going down one in the initial half, Concordia University, Nebraska continued to get inside or near the top of the box just to have their run halted in the final pass. The Bulldogs owned the dangerous possessions in the latter 45 minutes, but only came up with two shots striving for the sure goal.
Coach Weides continued, “For us to evolve into a team that can win games like this, create more chances and create more goals, we’ve got to make better decisions in attacking transition.”
Sanchez not only had the assist but was the lone Bulldog to fire multiple shots (two) in the contest. The total five shots came with one apiece from Haynes, Mckennah West and Avery Black. Goalkeeper Aaliyah Matthews was rarely tested in the 13 shots by KWU grabbing two saves.
Kansas Wesleyan (1-3-1) relied on a long score from Brooklyn Velotta in the 17th minute to get ahead early in the contest. Former Concordia graduate assistant and now Head Coach Michael McIntyre earned his first tie as the front man of the Coyotes against his former colleague in Coach Weides. KWU will host Bethel College (Kan.) next.
Concordia (0-2-1) will host Dakota State University (0-4) on Saturday (Sept. 12) for senior day. The Bulldogs will compete at 1 p.m. CT and will celebrate the seven upcoming graduates before the contest.
