
NEWTON, Kan. – The wait for a return to action finally ended on Saturday (March 28) as Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Golf competed as one of six teams at the Bethel College Spring Invitational in Newton, Kan. With round one of two complete, the Bulldogs stand in third place while paced by seniors Emery Custer and Maddie Lewis. There are 40 total golfers in the field at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad hopes to pick up where it left off in the fall when it placed second at four different tournaments. The team score on Saturday came in at 357 (+69) amidst windy and chilly conditions in Newton.
A Broken Bow, Neb., native Custer will cap her collegiate career this spring. Custer shot an 11-over-par 83 on Saturday and resides in sixth place, six strokes off the tournament leader from Dakota Wesleyan. Lewis trails closely behind with an 84 (in line with her season average of 83.5), good for a tie for 10th place. Custer entered the spring with a season scoring average of 79.2. She was the Siouxland Invite champion in the fall.
The lineup at the Bethel Invite also includes sophomore Savannah McFalls (89; T-18th) and freshmen Olivia James (101) and Amelia Ptacnik (101). As a team, the Bulldogs sit 20 strokes out of second and 28 out of first.
