Jacoby’s 80 leads the way for women’s golf at Peru State Invite

NEBRASKA CITY – In its third outing of the fall season, the Concordia University women’s golf team carded a 358 to tie for second among eight teams at Sunday’s Peru State Invite held at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City. The field included participants from Bellevue, Briar Cliff, College of Saint Mary, Doane, Iowa Western Community College, Midland and Peru State on a day with wind speeds of 20-25 miles per hour.

Individually, freshman Emmy Jacoby, who hails from Lincoln, built off the 82 she shot at GPAC Qualifier No. 1 on Monday and turned in a career best 80 on Sunday. She placed second out of 57 golfers and was only two strokes off the leader.

“She played great,” head coach Brett Muller said. “She’s kind of where Amy was at last year, still trying to get into the 70s. She shot a 42 on her front nine and then shot pars on her first six holes on the back nine. An 80 is a very solid round.”

Sophomore Amy Ahlers, who carded a team season low of 78 at GPAC No. 1, posted an 84 (seventh place) at Table Creek. The remainder of the lineup included sophomore Kayla Krueger (96) and freshmen Ashlen Pospisil (98) and Brenna Gnuse (105).

“It was an OK performance,” said Muller, who noted that wet conditions made the course play longer. “It was nothing to get too worked up about either way. Amy just couldn’t get some putts to drop and build some momentum. Kayla struggled on her front nine but came back and played better on the back nine.”

The Bulldogs also brought four additional individuals to the tournament. That group included seniors Allie Schieffer (98), Melissa McIntosh (111) and Jenelle Hallaert (116) and freshman Lauren Sperry (129). All three seniors are battling to reach the No. 5 spot in the varsity lineup.

In the team’s first three rounds, Concordia has carded scores of 376, 343 and 358 for an average of 359.

The Bulldogs have two meets remaining on the fall schedule. Next up is the two-round Briar Cliff Invite on Thursday and Friday at Two Rivers Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa. The fall season closes with GPAC Qualifier No. 2 at Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln on Oct. 6.
