FREMONT, Neb. – Two top-10 finishers and one right on the edge led Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Golf to a third-place finish at the annual Nebraska Intercollegiate at Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Neb., where state bragging rights were at stake. Seniors Emery Custer and Maddie Lewis emerged with individual medals as action concluded on a sun-soaked Tuesday (Oct. 7). Nicer conditions as compared to Monday led to lower scoring.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s team carded a two-round total of 344-323–667 (+99) while navigating the par-71 course. The Bulldogs improved by 21 strokes from day one to day two.

“Yesterday was a little disappointing with our team score,” Muller said. "I thought they did a great job of bouncing back and shooting one of our better team scores of the fall. It was great to have two in the top 10 and Savannah (McFalls) just outside. Savannah did a great job improving from yesterday.”

The Broken Bow, Neb., native Custer has starred throughout the fall for Concordia. She ultimately landed in a tie for sixth place (82-80–162) out of 36 golfers at the Nebraska Intercollegiate. Custer has placed in the top 10 of all five events this fall (and has 13 top 10 placements in her career). Right on her heels was Lewis (Treynor, Iowa), who made a leap forward on day two and vaulted up to eighth place (85-79–164) for her third top 10 placement of the season.

The best score of Tuesday’s round was turned in by McFalls (89-78–167), who narrowly missed out on a top 10 medal. She placed 11th, two strokes out of 10th, with the help of her seven-over-par effort on day two (birdie on 16). The lineup also featured freshmen Olivia James (88-89–177) and Amelia Ptacnik (94-86–180), who placed 19th and 20th, respectively.

In the Nebraska Intercollegiate team race, the Bulldogs trailed only Wayne State College (622) and Doane (654). The teams that followed third-place Concordia were College of Saint Mary (680), Hastings (736), Nebraska Wesleyan (784) and Southeast Community College (812). The Bulldogs’ 323 team score in round two was their third lowest single round total of the fall.
