Concordia settles for fifth place at Nebraska Intercollegiate

AXTELL, Neb. – The annual Nebraska Intercollegiate offered the chance for Concordia University Women’s Golf to see where it stacks up amongst in-state competition. The Bulldogs ultimately placed fifth out of six Nebraska programs at the two-round tournament held at Awarri Dunes Golf Club in Ashland, Neb., on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 6-7). Sophomore Emery Custer earned the team’s highest individual placement while sharing 13th place out of 30 golfers in the field.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad has wrapped up its fall schedule while turning in a two-round Nebraska Intercollegiate total of 385-355–740. Concordia managed to beat out GPAC rival Hastings. Coached by Bulldog alum Shawn Rodehorst, the University of Nebraska-Kearney came away with the team title.

Each program entered exactly five individuals into the tournament. The Broken Bow, Neb., native Custer shot 90-86–176 for the tournament. She was nine strokes out of a top 10 placement (medals were handed out to the top 10 finishers). As the No. 2 in the lineup this weekend, Logan Eschliman placed 18th with her score of 88-92–180. The Lincoln Lutheran product fell back seven spots compared to where she began the day.

The three through five golfers for the Bulldogs at the Nebraska Intercollegiate were Maddie Lewis (104-87–191; 23rd), Mya Nurse (106-90–196; 25th) and Jennifer Gillotti (103-96–199). Those three Bulldogs combined to improve their scores by 46 strokes from day one to day two. The team’s scoring average now stands at 352.7 through five events (10 rounds).
