Bulldogs place seventh at Hastings Invite, follow Custer's lead

HASTINGS, Neb. – A strong and consistent performance from sophomore Emery Custer represented the most significant highlight of the 2023 Hastings Bronco Fall Invite for Concordia University Women’s Golf. As a team, the Bulldogs slipped two spots from day one to day two as the tournament concluded from Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Neb., on Tuesday (Sept. 26). Concordia wound up in seventh place out of nine groupings in a field that featured 55 golfers from eight institutions.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad carded a two-day total of 343-345–688. The champion was Bellevue University with a score of 317-312–629.

The Broken Bow, Neb., native Custer made a push for a top 10 placement and settled for a tie for 12th with her score of 82-82–164. That total put her two strokes out of 10th place. Three of her teammates landed inside the top 30: Logan Eschliman (88-85–173; T-23rd), Maddie Lewis (83-91–174; T-26th) and Jennifer Gillotti (90-87–177; T-30th). Lewis shot a rock solid 83 on Monday. The biggest improvement from day one to day two was made by Sarah Wilson, who slashed 13 strokes from her score and shot a 90 on Tuesday. Complete Concordia scores are listed below.

Through eight rounds (four events) this fall, Custer has shot 87 or better in each round. Heading into the Hastings Invite, Custer was coming of a seventh-place finish at the Buena Vista Invite. She’s established herself as the team’s No. 1 golfer after earning GPAC Newcomer of the Year accolades in 2022-23.

The fall portion of the 2023-24 schedule will conclude with the Nebraska Intercollegiate coming up on Oct. 6-7. The tournament will feature men’s and women’s collegiate squads from within the state of Nebraska and will be held at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Axtell, Neb.
