YORK, Neb. – Fresh off a championship at last week’s Lila Frommelt Fall Classic, Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Golf is taking aim at another first-place trophy. As part of a small field at the two-round York Fall Invitational, the Bulldogs sit one stroke behind tournament leader College of Saint Mary with 18 holes in the books. Concordia’s ‘A’ team shot a 336 (+56) in round one on a comfortable weather day (Sept. 21) at York Country Club, where early morning rain dampened the course.
With the Bent Tree Intercollegiate simultaneously taking place in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Head Coach Brett Muller is accompanying the men’s team this week. Graduate Assistant Coach Emery Custer traveled with the women’s team to York, where the field includes a total of 32 players from four institutions.
The top four Bulldog competitors in Monday’s round are each situated within the top five of the individual leaderboard. College of Saint Mary’s Victoria Farkas (six-over-par 76) owns a seven-stroke lead over three golfers currently tied for second place, including Concordia graduate student Maddie Lewis (83) and junior Savannah McFalls (83). Meanwhile, Bulldog sophomores Olivia James and Amelia Ptacnik are tied for fifth place (85). Freshman Mia Ochsner rounded out Concordia’s first grouping with an 87.
Freshman Emma Anderson carded a career low of 87 on Monday while pacing the Bulldog ‘B’ group. Three other Concordia athletes shot 97 or better: freshman Lucy Nothwehr (90), junior Makenzie Hughes (92) and sophomore Brielle Cook (97). The Concordia second team shot 372 (+92) for the round and stands in third place.
Following College of Saint Mary (+55) and the two Bulldog groups in the team standings are York A (+109), Tabor College (+162) and York B (+169).
